Tools Needed
Regular screwdriver or spudger (trim removal tool.) Just be careful not to scratch the door panel.
Â
STEP 1: POP OUT EXISTING PUDDLE LIGHT
Using the regular screwdriver or spudger, simply pop out the existing puddle light. Be careful not to scratch your door panel when removing the light. Also, some of the internal cables can be quite short so be careful to make sure your cable doesn't go inside the door as you'll have a hard time getting it out.
NOTE: WINDOW BEHAVIOR WHEN UNPLUGGING LIGHT
When you unplug the light, the windows will roll up and down a bit and the car will beep. Don't be alarmed. This is normal. Just make sure not to close the door while the window is all the way up. Once you reconnect the puddle light, the window will behave normally again.
Â
STEP 2 - REMOVE THE OEM PUDDLE LIGHT
Once the light has been carefully popped out of the door frame, gently pull the fixture down to reveal the release clip. (see image) Press the clip down and pull the wire off the fixture. Do not let go of the cable. The cable can be short and if you let go of it, it can snake up inside the door and can be difficult to retrieve.Â
Â
STEP 3 - PLUG IN NEW PUDDLE LIGHT
Once you have removed the OEM light from the cable, simply plug in the new Flex The Tesla puddle light. The car will chime and the windows move once the light is plugged in. The light should be on.
Â
STEP 4: FINAL ADJUSTMENT & FINISH
Before you pop the new puddle light all the way in, let's take a moment to ensure the projector is the direction you want it. The way to do this is to press the light PARTIALLY into the door - about half way. This will show us what the final product will look like but also allow us to easily pop the light out should we need to change the direction of the projection.Â
Â
Open the door all the way and see if the projection is the direction you desire. If it's upside-down, simply pop out and rotate as needed.Â
Â
THAT'S IT!
Just like that, you've upgraded your Tesla puddle lights and have personalized your car. Enjoy!
